Tensheds - the piano bashing, guitar swinging, husky voiced hobo. An individual with a chameleon like personality. An artist who wont conform to a stereotype but who lives his life in a time old tradition. A free spirit with humble charm. For the past few years Tensheds has dedicated himself to his craft, even to the extent of living on the road in his campervan. And now, his hard working earnestness is now paying off. He won the Performing Rights Society UK Unsigned Award in 2008, the Northern Trax Making It Big Award in 2009, a Celtic Connections Danny Award in Jan 2011, Pure Rawk Best Blues Track Of The Year, and even found time to set the World Record for the Most Gigs Performed in 24 Hours - performing 8 shows in 8 different cities. His latest record, Crazy Beautiful, gained critical acclaim across the board with MOJO describing him as “Exceptional”, receiving four stars in UNCUT and was hailed by Get Ready To Rock as “Record of the Year”. It also touched the hearts of fans and sceptics alike, breaking down any perceived notion of this individual artist. Charles Burkovski once said: “An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way”. It’s with this philosophy that Tensheds makes records, and Crazy Beautiful is the epitome of it. From the ‘heart-stoppingly gorgeous’ opening track to the last note, the album is telling a story, its taking you on a journey. Neither is it a wall of sound that’s over produced - sure it rocks at times while its slow and tender at others, but never does it relying on studio trickery to achieve results - this is purely down to great musicianship. Tensheds is fiercely protective over his music and he knows exactly what he wants and how to say it. So much so that his first album, Clockwork was recorded completely alone in a disused barn in the north of England – saying “I didn’t really trust anyone to get it right”. With Crazy Beautiful he did however allow people in, but it wasn’t without a struggle - spending a year working with various co-producers and musicians to find the right one’s who could see his vision. Right upto the end though, he kept the role of Producer to himself. When not in the studio Tensheds is on the road, living in his campervan. He’s a troubadour at heart, a hobo. He wont be confined to four walls. He’s a free thinker and lives his life slightly off the mainstream. Hi sextensive touring schedule has seen him play 140 dates in the past 12 months with The Crazy Beautiful Tour taking him through 11 countries and a total of 22,000 miles driven. Starting at the Dorchester Hotel in London, through Europe - including a performance in the Arctic Circle - and back to England where he joined Hazel O'Connor as her support artist on her entire UK tour. No stranger to opening for legendary artists. Over the past couple of years Tensheds has opened for the likes of Paul Young, Roger Chapman, James Burton, Jerry Sheff & Glen D Hardin and Nashville Legend Pam Tillis. Tensheds has also been personaly invited on Hazel O'Connor's next two tours. MOJO said of Tensheds "he's a soulfull chameleon with an ear for the unexpected". This pretty much sums up this unique artist. There's nothing without meaning - in his music, his video's and even in his live shows. To read between the lines of the lyrics and you'll find the true meaning, look beyond the costumes for the reason. All this, coupled with his chameleon personality is what makes Tensheds the unique artist that he is. |
